The political constitutions for the three countries of the North and West Amazon, in which CANOA is carrying out activities, recognise the multi-ethnic character of each respective country and include the recognition of collective rights, such as the use of own languages and territorial rights.

All three countries have ratified the Convention 169 of the International Labour Organisation, which covers a wide range of rights and indigenous participation in the definition of initiatives that affect their territories.
